The state House and Senate operating budgets were released this week, and the two chambers take different approaches to how they will address closing the funding gaps in special education and school operating costs. We need your voice to let legislators know that Washington State is not meeting its “paramount duty to make ample provision for the education of all children residing within its borders” to fully fund basic education. Large shortfalls will continue to worsen the fiscal instability of school districts, threatening to push many into the equivalent of bankruptcy.
Legislators should prioritize constitutionally mandated K-12 education funding in the state’s operating budget by closing existing gaps in basic education funding for MSOC (Materials, Supplies and Operating Costs) and special education services so that state funding reflects and keeps pace with actual costs and current student needs.
**These bills have the potential to bring millions to our Eastside school districts next year. **
Please click this link send your legislators a pre-written email that asks them to prioritize K-12 funding and to only support an operating budget that includes an additional $3 billion in basic education funding for our school districts.
